The SOLANACEAE family

The genus Capsicum is in a major state of confusion at the moment. From what ive been able to determine there are at least 26 species in this Genus. Researchers world wide are in a debate and are attempting to develop a classification system that will work. To find out more and to further understand the confusion I recomend reading this page .

So what I have done is list 27 Species. Only 5 of these species are commonly cultivated so I will focus on these as best I can. Please remember that there is still much debate among researchers on these so please dont send me nasty emails if you dont agree with something. Currently there are researchers who think chinense belongs to fruitescens . Even more confusing another researcher reports that chinense and fruitescens both belong to annuum.

** I have listed chinense seperatly due to its continued common use among growers and seed companies
